Basement Adventureland

Dadguy is so proud of me.... he says I am getting geekier by the day. His heart goes pitterpat when I talk about "browsers" and "downloading some new code" for my blog template. Although I used to make a living doing computer graphics both in the sign industry and freelance, I have kept myself as much out of the nuts and bolts of the ones and zeros as possible. The possibilities are endless. I have endlessly kept myself aloof... till now.

It is with a surprising lack of sheepishness or chagrin that I announce to the Internet that I want my very own laptop. I'd REALLY like an awesome laptop that can run Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator smoothly, but I'd settle for my very own blogging hook-up that I don't have to fight the Chaos Girls for (to say nothing of World of Warcraft). I want a beauty that I can take with me into the bathroom and lock the door. We already are a wireless household, it shouldn't be that hard.

Sigh, how spoiled am I that instead of a laptop I am getting a family room in the basement. It's a sacrifice, but as a family of 5 we now could use the space. So Wednesday night we are having our very first contractor come to give us a bid. Wish us luck. Wish our funds sufficient to the task... and if you want to come and visit us... wish us enough to somehow finish a guest room and bath down there too!

Photos to come.

*Until I can get to changing my template around again, we will go to a larger point size for the type... the Mother Superior A.k.a. Grammy is getting her eyes upgraded, but in the meantime... I hope this helps.

I wish I was even slightly artistic. And while I manage to stumble around a bit in Photshop, I find it a real chore to use it, even after taking an intro course through the local college. It is a great piece of software though if you know how to use it.

A laptop for the bathroom! LMAO. My new one has yet to venture into the porcelain room, but my old one went in there plenty of times! It is a nice quiet place to work (well, except for that one time after Taco Bell, but let's not go there!)

I wish you luck on the contractor thing. You are doing better than me already. I can't get a contractor to call me for anything. Forget the "midwest work ethic", around here nobody wants to work and they won't even call you back to say they aren't interested in the job. I called three contractors three years ago to inquire about building me an addition on my house. No calls yet. I decided it would be easier to sell the house and move then deal with these morons. And I once had to hire a roofer from 60 miles away because nobody local would return my calls. Maybe it's me, I don't know. I'm just a transplant in a community of good ol boys.

I have been thinking about a laptop lately also. Just so I could write in bed. That would be cool! If I mentioned it to my husband he could probably make it happen too. He could get a line on a used one or something through work. Hmmm. I'm pretty sure he thinks it's cool that I'm so into this blogging thing. He always likes it when I do anything even the slightest bit geeky!

Well, I have the laptop, just not the skillz... but I'm working on it... there are so many ideas in my head!

Uhm, it's a SACRIFICE for you not to get a laptop instead of finish the basement? Huh???

The first I'd heard about you wanting a laptop was at most a month ago....!!! Hmm. You had started saying we need a new computer the last few months, now you're showing your true colors! AHA! I caught you!

Or something.

I am fortunate to have a very nice laptop with photo and paint software (that I haven't learned to properly use yet, however...) but a family room sounds WONDERFUL. Looking forward to the pictures!!

I really think DadGuy should get you a laptop. Then again, I had to whine about it for about a year to get my first one, and it was a junker from ebay. Then I had to whine some more for a couple months when I wanted a real laptop. My wife now understands since she's stuck with the junker.

BTW, I have a question for you guys over on Dadguys blog re: vegas.

I would love to have an artsy skill or two. *Sigh*. That would be nice.

A new laptop wouldn't be bad either!

I think your hubby should buy you a new laptop - and then I think you should convince my hubby to buy me a new laptop! This junker - isn't any fun! LOL

You don't have to do my tag...
