Weeeenie

I have always been the proud knower of precisely how I carry my kids; heads down, breech, face front, face back etc...

Not this one, and as it turns out, it's probably because the kid is in there in a pretty screwy position for a term baby. He's transverse. Head on my left side, bum on my right with his arms and his legs poking up. Really baffles me as to what the heck is weighing down the bottom of my uterus and making me waddle so. Water?

Oh, AND I am at a big fat ZERO. As in zero centimeters. As in, "crap." As in, we are gonna be in this to the bitter, bitter end. Which, when you consider how freaked out I am at the prospect of the whole labor and delivery gig, may be a good thing. Wait this out till I am so VERY miserable that I won't care what it takes to get this kid OUT of me. You would think that a three time veteran of child birth would be less of a weenie about the prospect of pushing a fourth kid out. You would be wrong.

Call me Oscar Meyer cuz I am freakin' hard!

Will they let you push if he's transverse? Or will they make you C-section?

Is a guaranteed c-section. Do not pass Go do not collect $200. My doc said he'd try a breech, but NEVER transverse.

Have they done an ultrasound to confirm the position? Even the best and brightest, full-tenured faculty at one of the top university medical centers in the nation get it wrong. In fact, *FOUR* different doctors got it wrong. I won't tell the rest of that story. Suffice it to say, I have a healthy daughter.

Instead, I'll tell you that I had 2breech boys that turned within 3 weeks of delivery. One flipped suddenly and the other took his own sweet time and gave transverse a try for a week or two....as if my uterus was his own personal hammock!... before ending up head down. Not supposed to happen but it does.

Also, did your doctor mention trying a ECV (see http://www.webmd.com/baby/external-cephalic-version-version-for-breech-position). There is also a midwife method of placing a warm pack low on the pelvis and cold packs on top (with the thought that a baby will turn away from the cold towards the warm). They tried both with me. Ironically, they got the from breech to transverse and wimpered "if only you were transverse to begin with"...but again we don't need to go there, my daughter is healthy no matter how she got here.

Then there was my 4th...you'd think that the 4th would be the easiest. They should just fall out of you by then, right? With my 4th I didn't dilate at all until the day of delivery. With all the others I was 3-4cm a MONTH ahead time. I normally don't swear but there may have been some 4 letter words uttered when the doctor told I was still ZERO at 40 weeks.

"Ok, maybe a fingertip, she said"
Whew!
"But that's only because your cervix is soft from having 3 other full-term pregnancies"
Arrrghhh...

Plus, I was convinced I'd deliver early because my other three were 2-3 weeks early. Instead, I went 0cm to 8cm within 2 hours and delivered the day after my due date. I kid you not.

The only thing predictable about labor is it is entirely unpredictable.

Hang in there! These last days feel like an eternity but it really is an eyeblink in time. Doesn't help to hear, I know. I wish I could borrow your big, beautiful pregnant belly and ease your load for a day or two, I really do. Then I'd pass it on to another blogger because I'd probably be a bigger wienie :)

Yeah... second kiddo was breech until 38 weeks, she flipped herself two days before my scheduled external version (go LaLa!) and I am betting this kid will do the right thing eventually. I am in favor of trying another if he doesn't straighten up and fly right, though they are not without risks.

But they DID do an ultrasound in the office this morning when the doc was as non-plussed as I about where his head had gone, so there is no doubt about the position of this guy. Surely it cannot be comfortable though!

Till then I am doing the knee/chest position... as in, knees and chest on the bed with my bum in the air. Is supposed to give the kid room to maneuver. I am not past trying the warm pack/ice pack thing either!

Oh, wow, that has to be uncomfortable. I hope that he flips into the right position and two pushes and you are done.... how does that sound?

Yeah, I have no idea what that would be like...

Yeah, that does not sound like fun. I hope he moves into a more comfortable and better position soon!

You are not a weenie. Childbirth is a scary/miraculous thing. If you didn't feel freaked you'd be kidding yourself.

Ahh yes, I hate those words "you're not dilated at all". Funny how I can be angry at a doc for something my body is doing... Hang in there, perty soon you'll be holding the cutest little boy you've ever seen.

C-sections aren't so bad if you have to have one. I have to have one, I had to have one with my son too. I actually look forward to not having to labor. :-)

There's still time for him to flip again, though, right? RIGHT?

man, you are a trooper!!

Look up www.babyspinning.com they supposedly have great ways to turn babies. Mine seems to be okay this early, but his brother decided to come out "sunny-side" up--head down, but turned so his spine was against mine--very painful laboring, so I'm going to try their suggestions just in case...
And hey, if he doesn't turn, you might be going C-Section and not having to deal with labor, and maybe you won't be as exhausted when he comes out...

Little stinker. No head on cervix, no dialation. Sorry. Hopefully he will soon decide to put his head back where it belongs.
