A friend of mine took a baby massage course and showed me a sequence of massages that is supposed to help encourage bowel movement. You use two fingers and start from the baby's right side of the belly and massage towards the baby's left (your right). Then you massage from the same starting point, only when you reach the other side you make a short stroke downwards, kind of like an upside down inverted L. Then you start again on the baby's lower right side making an upside U motion towards the baby's left. It's easier to show how to do it than write about it...

It was kind of hard to keep her steady enough to massage her like that so instead I resorted to massaging her lower belly by moving her legs in a bicycle movement. That is much easier to explain. Hope it helps.Diana Mancusohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08325548074184305809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18298740.post-1149188215724696672006-06-01T11:56:00.000-07:002006-06-01T11:56:00.000-07:00We are soul sisters. Heinz makes stewed prunes. She likes those. The apple and prune juice is a good idea. A won't drink anything but mama's milk... I've heard of the brown sugar thingy. I think my friend did like two tbsps of water to one of sugar! It's still natural and mmmm good. I have also used the glycerin suppositories, stood there holding it in while she cried and strained. But it eventually did the trick and she was much happier afterwards. Good luck!! That probably is stopping her up nicely. If you are using formula you might want to mix it a little less strong, or change brands. The Absent Minded Housewifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14367710044518218570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18298740.post-1149129765892948332006-05-31T19:42:00.000-07:002006-05-31T19:42:00.000-07:00My Megan is having the same issues. Also I've been having her drink apricot necter (the Kerns brand). Since then he hasn't had a problem. The public health nurse recommended that one to me, she also said to try heating up a towel in the dryer and placing it on the belly. She says the warm is supposed to stimulate action. That really doesn't help if whats coming out is hard as rocks.

My niece on the other hand has constipation problems big time.
